How to Play

🎯 Objective

Capture the opponent's King by putting it in checkmate — a position from which it cannot escape.

♟️ Piece Movement
  • King ♔ — moves 1 square in any direction
  • Queen ♕ — moves any number of squares in any direction
  • Rook ♖ — moves any number of squares horizontally or vertically
  • Bishop ♗ — moves any number of squares diagonally
  • Knight ♘ — moves in an L-shape (2+1). Can jump over pieces
  • Pawn ♙ — moves 1 square forward, captures diagonally
Special Moves

Castling — Move the King 2 squares toward a Rook; the Rook jumps to the other side. Neither piece may have moved previously.

En Passant — If a pawn advances 2 squares past an opposing pawn, that opposing pawn may capture it as if it moved only 1 square.

Promotion — When a Pawn reaches the far rank it promotes to any piece (usually a Queen).
